August 17th- Deborah Jiang-Stein
Deborah Jiang-Stein is an author, speaker, and collaborator who works across the country inside prisons. She’s founder of the unPrison Project (www.unprisonproject.org) a nonprofit dedicated to building life skills capacity and mentoring for incarcerated women and girls. She is a graduate of The Women’s Media Center in New York, the nation’s premier media and leadership training program for women founded by Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda.
Deborah advocates for creative free expression and mentoring inside prisons, and on the outside, she speaks in conferences with strategic stakeholders to build public awareness about mass incarceration.
For more than 10 years, Deborah has championed support for people in need of freedom, life skills development, education, shelter, and career building. Currently Deborah is developing a series of monologues based on her memoir, Prison Baby, described as “One woman's struggles—beginning with her birth in prison—to find self-acceptance, proving that redemption and healing are possible even from the darkest corners.”
